From Tag to Insight: Advanced Tagging in TeamTV

Updated on 15 Apr 2026

What is advanced tagging?

TeamTV now includes a new feature that allows you to collect additional data through tags.
In addition to standard Tags (such as Shot), which already include several fixed attributes (for example shooter, defender, outcome, left/right), you can now extend Tags yourself with custom fields.

This allows you to decide:

  • which information you want to capture
  • how detailed your analysis should be
  • and how precisely you can later retrieve video and data

Advanced Tagging makes it possible not only to register actions, but also to analyze them in depth.

Why use advanced tagging?

By adding extra attributes to tags, you can:

  • collect more targeted data from an action and understand how often it occurs
  • perform deeper analyses
  • quickly review specific situations on video
  • answer questions that are not possible with standard tagging

You have complete freedom in this: every tag can be configured based on your game principles, analysis questions, or training objectives.

Example: the Rebound tag

As an example, we have extended the “Rebound” tag.

For this action, we want to capture information such as:

  • Who was positioned for the rebound?
  • Who won the rebound?
  • What type of chance was it?
(for example: first-phase chance or second-chance opportunity)
  • Where did the ball bounce after the shot?

With this information, you can later answer questions such as:

  • How often do we take shots without rebound positioning?
  • Where do balls bounce to after a shot (in percentages)?
  • If the ball does not go directly to the rebounder, how often do we still regain possession?
  • How often do we lose the ball after a shot, and why?

This significantly strengthens the connection between game situations, data, and decision-making.

How do you create an advanced Teamtag?

  1. Go to Teamtags in the menu
  2. Find the Teamtag you want to extend
  3. Click the three dots next to the tag
  4. Select Edit

You can now create a form for this tag:

  • Add fields (for example dropdowns, multiple-choice options, or free text)
  • Decide which information is required or optional
  • Configure the tag completely according to your needs

How does data entry work?

During post-game tagging, this works as follows:

  1. Use the extended tag (for example Rebound)
  2. In the tagger, open the edit option for this tag
  3. Fill in the additional fields you have created

This works in a similar way to how you already enter extra information for a Shot.

Where can you view the data?

All additional attributes you enter are available in the Datastudio.

Here you can:

  • filter by specific attributes
  • combine and compare data
  • adjust and explore variables
  • identify patterns and trends

This is how you move from:
tag → data → insight → better decisions

Summary

With advanced Tagging in TeamTV, you:
