Remco Winter (LDODK) on using automatic camera for korfball

Read our interview with Remco Winter below

LDODK, a leading korfball club, continues to innovate in the world of sports technology and data analysis. A recent addition to their arsenal is the automatic camera system from TeamTV.

With this advancement, they can capture and analyze both matches and training sessions, proving valuable for both senior and youth teams.

In our interview with Remco Winter, we delve into the impact of the automatic camera system and the use of TeamTV's analytical tools in their strategy. These insights provide a unique glimpse into how LDODK's approach to data and technology contributes to their success, both on the field and beyond.

TeamTV:

"You have been using the online TeamTV platform for years, but now, since this season, you're also using the automatic camera system. How do you utilize this within the club?"

Remco Winter:

"For us, it's important to stay ahead, especially in terms of technological advancements. With the automatic camera system, we can record matches and training sessions for all teams. Especially with the youth, we've noticed a significant increase in the use of video analysis compared to before."

TeamTV:

"The use of training session footage is quite new. Are the recordings reviewed afterwards?"

Remco Winter:

"Indeed, in the beginning, we recorded the training sessions and then reviewed them with the team afterwards. Since your update a few weeks ago, the footage is now available during the training itself. This introduces a whole new way of working. During a scrimmage in training, the game is occasionally paused to analyze the footage and see what went well and what could be improved. This immediate feedback works even better than reviewing later."

TeamTV:

"You're talking about the youth where it's used during training sessions. I assume for a team like LDODK 1, footage during a match can also make a difference. Can you tell us more about this?"

Remco Winter:

"The live review was available during our match against PKC last weekend. We used it immediately. During timeouts and halftime, we reviewed certain clips—moments where something went very well and needs to be maintained, or instances where we didn't have a good solution during the game."

TeamTV:

"In a timeout, you have limited time. How many clips do you show?"

Remco Winter:

"Yes, that's correct. In a timeout, you only have time for a few clips—1 or 2. We display them on a tablet. At halftime, we have a bit more time, so we show a bit more. But we don't have time to review all shots of a specific player, for example."

TeamTV:

"The head coach wouldn't have time for that. How is this organized in your case?"

Remco Winter:

"We have a dedicated video analyst who also tracks all the statistics during the match, providing valuable insights. As for the clips shown during timeouts and halftime, the responsibility lies with our third member of the coaching staff. In our case, it's the coach of the second team, someone with a lot of korfball-specific knowledge. He selects the moments, or the head coach and assistant point out specific instances to him."
